Mr. Grace died 19th November, 1760, and was s. by his eldest son, Oliver Grace, esq. who m. Mary, dau. and heiress of John Dowell, esq. of Montagh, now Mantua, in the county of Roscommon, and had issue, i. Michael, who inherited the estate of Gracefield, m. Mary, daughter and co-heir (with her sisters, Catherine, Mrs. Malone, and Margaret, Mrs. Dunne) of Nicholas Plunkct, esq. of Dunsoghly, in the county of Dublin, and dying 25th August, 1786, aged lixty-three, left an only child, The family of Dowei.i., or Mac Dowen, was of u ri'iii antiquity. Burke, the learned author of the Hibernia Dtminicana, in speaking of the religious foundations in the county of Hoscommon, thus refers to it:--" The noble family of Don-ell is lineally descended from Heremou. The present head is Lucas Mac Dowell, esq. a gentleman of opulence, and an honor to the Catholic religion, which he professes." The same right reverend author further informs us, that amongst the distinguished members of this family was Felix Mac Dowf.ll, who, having finished his studies at Valadolid, taught philosophy in Sardinia and Paris, and subsequently theology at Rome.
